Self-care. The buzzword that seems to be everywhere these days. But what does it really mean? To me, self-care is simply the art of taking care of you.

It’s giving yourself permission to step away from the chaos of life and tend to your mind, body, and soul—like watering a plant that’s been sitting in the corner looking a little crispy (we’ve all been there).

For women, self-care is absolutely vital. We’re so used to juggling all the things—work, family, relationships, errands, remembering to drink water (and actually drinking it, not just thinking about it).

It’s easy to put ourselves last on the list.

But here’s the truth: taking time to recharge isn’t selfish; it’s necessary. Not only is self-care essential for positive mental health, but it’s also the fuel that keeps us going.

I’m a big advocate for practicing self-care whenever possible, and I’ve got some fresh ideas to help you feel like the amazing, rejuvenated human you are. Let’s dive in.

1. Start with Meditation (Even if You’re an Over-thinker)

Meditation doesn’t mean sitting cross-legged for hours while trying to silence your inner monologue about what’s for dinner. (Spoiler: it’s probably tacos.)

Even 5-10 minutes of mindful breathing or guided meditation can work wonders. Apps like Calm or Insight Timer are lifesavers for beginners.

And hey, if your mind wanders, that’s okay. Just gently bring it back—no judgment here.

2. Try Expressive Journaling

This isn’t your “Dear Diary” moment from middle school. Think of expressive journaling as a way to brain-dump all the clutter in your head.

Write down your worries, your wins, or even random thoughts like, “Why do socks disappear in the dryer?” It’s a form of therapy you can do in your comfiest pajamas.

Bonus points if you pair it with your favorite tea.

3. Wind Down with Calming Music at Night

Ever noticed how some songs just make you breathe easier?

Create a playlist of soothing tracks to listen to before bed. Think gentle piano, nature sounds, or even an acoustic cover of your favorite song.

Trust me, it beats scrolling your phone until you’ve spiraled into obscure internet rabbit holes.

4. Plan a Weekly Digital Detox

Social media is great for memes, but let’s be honest, it can also be a vortex of comparison and stress. Dedicate one day (or even a few hours) each week to unplug.

Read a book, go for a walk, or tackle that puzzle you bought but never started. Your brain will thank you for the breather.

5. Move Your Body in a Way You Love

Exercise doesn’t have to mean hitting the gym or running a marathon.

Dance in your living room, do some yoga, or take a leisurely stroll while pretending you’re the star of your own rom-com.

Moving your body releases feel-good endorphins, and it doesn’t have to feel like a chore.

6. Treat Yourself to a DIY Spa Night

Grab that face mask you’ve been saving, light a candle, and soak in the tub with some Epsom salts.

Don’t have a tub? No problem—a steamy shower with essential oils works wonders, too.

The point is to create a space where you feel pampered and at peace. (Tip: a glass of wine pairs nicely with this.)

7. Cultivate a Morning Ritual You Look Forward To

Mornings don’t have to be a mad dash out the door.

Start your day with something small that makes you happy—a warm cup of coffee, a few stretches, or reading a chapter of a book.

It’s about setting the tone for the day ahead.

And yes, hitting snooze three times doesn’t count… but no judgment if you do.

8. Connect with Nature (Yes, Even if It’s Your Backyard)

Nature has a way of grounding us like nothing else. Take a walk, plant some flowers, or simply sit outside and feel the sunshine on your face.

If you’re lucky, maybe you’ll spot a butterfly or a cute squirrel doing squirrel things.

Instant mood boost!

Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming. It’s about finding small ways to show yourself some love every day.

You deserve to feel your best—mind, body, and soul. So go ahead, pick one (or all!) of these practices and make them your own.

And remember: you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Take care of you first… tacos can wait. ❤️
